Writing Frenzy

I'm exhausted. And for some reason I really want to watch Dancing with the Stars, even though I told myself I don't like that show... but it's really growing on me! Just like American Idol did.

Le sigh.

But I can't.

Because I need to write. I NEED to.

If I'm not writing, I'm thinking about writing, I'm thinking about my characters, I'm thinking about the plot.

Even right now... I'm taking a very short break before I get right back into it.

But I need to sleep too.

I don't know why I feel completely consumed by this story right now.

It's good though, right? I think it's good... I hope it's good.

I've been writing almost nonstop since October 18th (with the exception of a few glitches in between) - I wrote the date down because it's been like a fire spreading within me. It ignited and hasn't stopped raging.

I have exactly 16, 794 words left to finish my WiP. It may be less by the time you read this, because as soon as I post this, I'm going back to it.

Maybe that's why I'm feeling this burning need to not stop.

Whatever it is, I'm riding it out, and hoping for the best :)

Have you ever been bit by this bug? You know the one that glues you to your computer... makes your hands move of their own accord across the keyboard?

When the fever is on you you have to just go with it. But I'll say this. Keep a jug of water by your writing space and stop every hours to drink some. That'll give you a break from staring at the computer screen and it'll keep you hydrated too so your brain won't shrink.

It's also a good idea to keep healthy finger food close by, so you don't pass out from hunger. I say finger food because you don't want anything so major you could spill it and make a mess.

Jai - thank you so much for that amazing advice and reminder :) It's far too easy to forget to do the basic things when this frenzy hits ;)

Colene - Thank you! I know I'm in for some major editing when this is finished, but even that isn't getting to me... YET!

Wow, you're 80% the way complete. How fantastic. Go you. Go you. Go you. That's me doing a little cheer. You can't see me but I'm doing a little go you, wiggle dance from my seat.

Enjoy your writing and keep on climbing :-)

Uh no, no frenzy for me, but my mind has been working overtime. You are making fantastic strides. You go you nut you.

I call it being in the zone. It doesn’t happen to me often, but when it does, I love it.

Keep on keeping on! That incredible creative itch to sit down and just write - that's a feeling to take advantage of! You can always catch Dancing reruns online, but writing that first draft in the hot rush of inspiration, that's irreplaceable.

Exhausting as it may be, it is also an exciting place to be! Wow, you're so close. Congratulations and keep your eye on the goal. You're almost there :-)

Look at you go girl! You've got the fever. It feels good when that happens. (I wonder if writing will ever take off as a recreational drug? Put a lot of drug dealers out of business.)

Anyway, that's a lot of fun. And just think, when you get it all written down, you get to have even more fun polishing and revising and working out all the kinks!

Oh my goodness, yes! SPITFIRE's being holding me hostage for the past few months. I feel like I've gone insane, thinking of revisions, sequels, prequels; backstory, forestory--everything!

But it's amazing at the same time when your own work grabs you and refuses to let go. Ride it while you can! :)

I get this way when a poem is being born inside of me. The story ones grow a little slower but scenes will do this, too.

Sounds like you've hooked a big one, wow! Go for it!

You are so me. I have this happen all the freaking time. OMG. It's like no matter what you do there is something from the book kicking you in the brain trying to get your attention.

My husband hates me when I get like this...which is like now becuase of NaNo.

Thanks for stoping by and commenting. Nightshade was sooo good.

Good luck on the WIP. OH, I am having a query letter blogfest happening from dec. 12 to 18th.

Oh yes, I know the bug. The only cure is to finish writing the WiP!

Hi! Thanks for stopping by and following me! I'm here following you back.

Good luck with your WiP. You just have to take advantage when that fire hits your fingers and the brain slides into overdrive. I get some of my best stuff that way. Sure, I have to go back and edit, but sometimes when I read it back, I'm surprised that it was even me who wrote it! Now that's what I call being "in the zone".

I look forward to going back and perusing some of your older posts in order to get to know you a bit better.

Blessings and Peace,
Martha from A Real Upstate NY Housewife

Oh, yes, and it's a great zone to be in ... Enjoy :)

Yes.
And it's still my FAVORITE one.
I write everything fast but there's something about a story that WILL not let you take a few days off.
Happy finishing!

I'm with you, ride the inspiration while you have it! I've been feeling like that lately. There are plenty of times when I am not feeling it at all, so use it while you've got it! Awesome word count!

I often get the feeling and the urge to write, but all too often there are a multitude of distractions around me that force me to tear myself away continuously. When I get my own place, I'll have my own writing space and then I can write as and when I want. Mwahahahah!
